I had a great experience staying at New Koyo in Tokyo. the accommodation was just what I needed for a one night stay. the room was basic but comfortable, with a TV, cupboard, and hooks. the highlight was the fold out futon on the tatami mat, which added a traditional touch to my stay. the facilities were convenient, with toilets and a kitchen on every level, and onsens and showers on the ground floor. the staff were friendly and helpful, making my stay enjoyable. the location was in a quiet neighbourhood, which was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city. New Koyo offered great value for a budget option and I would definitely stay here again. Cons: Cannot find any faults. 😊.

Cheap prices, vending machines downstairs, great access to minami senju and staff were very friendly and helpful
Aircon either didnt work or was just awful, (staff loaned me a fan but that didn't help much either). Futon is not a comfy thing to sleep on, pillows were awful (filled with plastic tubes rather than feathers etc). I just couldn't stand the heat at all.

The room was cheap and the hotel wasn't too far from the metro station. The hotel manager was also very friendly.
From the outside the hotel looks lovely but inside it's very basic. The room was very small and basic. It just consisted of a matress on the floor, metal cupboard and tv. When I was looking for the hotel one of the women in the nieghbourhood warned me not to go down certain streets because she said it was dangerous. The hotel manager told me that the their main client base were refugees and there was also a sign outside the front of the hotel door warning people not to stand outside at nighttime because there had been complaints from the nieghbours about people making too much noise and that made me feel a bit uneasy. As a woman travelling on their own I didn't feel completely comforrtable about staying there on my own but if I was with someone else and I wanted somewhere very cheap to stay then I would stay there again.

I couldn't believe the value for money at this place, where else could you find such an affordable single room in a major capital city? The room may be small, but it was cozy and perfect for my stay. The location was convenient, with an underground station nearby and plenty of good places to eat in the area. The staff were friendly and spoke excellent English, made me feel safe and taken care of.
The breakfast menu could use some improvement, maybe adding more variety would be great.

Cheap price, small room but at least you are alone in your room. Good if you wanna take a break from hostels without having to sell your liver. The staff is really nice and helpful. The showers are clean and the water stream et quite strong. Good wifi signal and Internet speed. You have to walk 5-10 minutes to go the restaurant area, but once there, you have a lot of choice and it's not very expensive.
The men's room looked a bit old and dirty.

Loved exploring Asakusa and Ueno, so close! Rented a bike, free Wi-Fi, and helpful staff. Lobby had English papers, and I cooked in the kitchen. Conveniently located, and enjoyed cable TV.
Oh, how I missed having a window in my room! So refreshing to shower with other men, zero privacy.

Very helpful staff! We asked a lot of questions and always got comprehensive and accurate information. It is possible to prepare meals there. Wifi was working fine. The room was small, but still bigger than our other room in Tokyo - that's why we switched our previous hostel for this one. There are many convenience stores in the neighbourhood, so it's easy to do grocery shopping. It is not that far from Minami-senju station - 5-7 min walk.
You get what you pay for - so don't expect 5-star hotel rooms :)

The hotel was conveniently located near Tokyo SKYTREE and the metro. Staff were friendly and helpful. The shared bathrooms were clean. Free amenities like umbrellas and green tea were provided. Short walking distance to Minami-senju station and convenience stores.
Nothing, all was good.

Staffs are very friendly and helpful. In Tokyo, it is not easy to meet service staffs who can speak well English, but the staffs at New Koyo speak very good English, they are resourceful too.
The common area is small

The rooms of the hotel is pretty much a small room with a bed, perfect for backpackers! The staff speak very good english and are extremely helpful. So if you are looking for a place to sleep and store your backpack for a reasonable price Hotel New Koyo is perfect for you.

The hotel is conveniently located near a metro station, making it easy to explore the city. It is also situated between various attractions and in the Ueno area, providing plenty of options for sightseeing. the rooms are clean and comfortable, with the option for self-catering thanks to the microwave and tea/coffee facilities. the shared bathroom facilities are exceptionally clean and provide great hot water for a refreshing shower.
The rooms are small, but this is a common feature in this type of accommodation.

Price is cheap, the man at the counter can speak good english, kitchen is well equipped, room has tv.
If you're claustrophobic, don't go there - the rooms are tiny...and the walls and tatami mats are quite dirty as well. A lot of locals living in this hostel, I'm guessing they don't have jobs and have no where to live so they have to find cheap accommodation here. The neighbourhood has a lot of homeless people sleeping on the streets; they're harmless old men but it's not a happy sight. Also pretty much 9 out of 10 people on the street is carrying a plastic bag - you know inside it is either an obento from a convenience store or cup noodles.... They're all backpackers/travellers, like you. The suburb is one of *those* places for homeless people and backpackers. I went abroad wanting to get away from westerners but this was the wrong place for me.

At 4800 jpy per night for a 7 square meters Japanese style mini double room with a shared bathroom this was a budget choice I don't regret. The staff was very friendly and the location was good several minutes from Minowa subway station (close to Ueno).
A few hotels we stayed at later offered bit better comfort for a slightly higher price. I can recommend it for 1-2 night stay. For longer stays you might want to look for a more comfortable economy hotel unless sharing a bathroom is not a big concern for you.
